This book was developed to support a graduate-level Independent Study course at the University of Oregon. The course was one of several courses created by the International Council for Computers in Education (ICCE). ICCE is now the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).

The course was approved by the University of Oregon’s College of Education for use by students doing master’s degree-level work in the field of computers in education. Now, 27 years after its initial development and use, the book is primarily of interest to those working to better understand what preservice and inservice education in the field of computers in education looked like in those long-past days. The field has changed markedly since then!
